NordArt Prize & NordArt Public Choice Award
NordArt Prize
The NordArt Prize, endowed with 10,000 euros, has been donated by the entrepreneurial couple Hans-Julius and Johanna Ahlmann (shareholders of the ACO Group and hosts at Kunstwerk Carlshütte) since 2010. The NordArt Prize is awarded annually to one artist. The awardee will be announced at the end of the respective NordArt and is invited to a renewed participation in the exhibition. The award ceremony will take place at the opening of NordArt the following year.
NordArt Public Choice Award
Visitors of NordArt can vote for their favourite artist. Three Public Choice Awards will be announced at the end of the respective NordArt. The Public Choice Awards are endowed with 1,000 euros each and include an invitation to participate in the next NordArt. The award ceremony will take place at the opening of NordArt the following year.
NordArt Prize 2024
https://www.xiangjingart.com/en/
The NordArt Prize 2024 will be awarded to Chinese sculptor XIANG Jing.
Hans-Julius and Johanna Ahlmann, hosts of Kunstwerk Carlshütte and donors of the €10,000 NordArt Prize, are honoring the artist for her profound sculptures, which have enriched NordArt for the fourth time. XIANG Jing's figurative sculpture composition also earned her the NordArt Public Choice Award in 2018.
XIANG Jing’s visually captivating sculptures, although representational and realistic externally, are highly contemplative and inquisitive about the complexity of humanity and the value of spirituality in the modern age.

Special Achievement Award for 25 Years of NordArt
For 25 years, NordArt’s principal curators, Wolfgang Gramm and Inga Aru, have succeeded in presenting curated artwork from around the world with such talent that the exhibition has become a fascinating work of art in its own right. Their mastery in arranging the pieces - enhancing their impact within the space and creating a dialogue between them - has resulted in aesthetic brilliance and accessibility that continues to attract so many visitors year after year. The illustrated books and annual catalogues, created by Inga Aru, deserve particular recognition.
To mark the 25th anniversary of NordArt, Hans-Julius and Johanna Ahlmann would like to award a special NordArt award of €10,000 to the artists Wolfgang Gramm and Inga Aru.

The NordArt Prize 2022 is awarded to the Chinese sculptor Liu Ruowang.
Hans-Julius and Johanna Ahlmann, hosts of the Kunstwerk Carlshütte and donors of the art prize worth 10,000 euros, are therefore paying homage to an artist who has been closely associated with NordArt for many years and has captivated audiences throughout Europe as its ambassador.
Liu Ruowang was the Artist in Focus of NordArt 2016 and also received the Public Choice Award at that time. Since then, many of his major works have found a home at NordArt, and from here, have toured as guests during special collaborations with partners in Denmark, the Czech Republic, Italy and Switzerland. His large format sculpture group of apes has also been impressively displayed in front of Kiel's Landtag and in Hamburg City.
Liu Ruowang deals with the issues concerning the origin and conception of humanity, the meaning of existence and every individual's purpose in life. “Wolves Coming", "Original Sin" and "Dodos" also measure the value of the original and the impact of the achievements of civilization upon it. With the sculpture group "Mr. Pinocchio", the artist hopes to inspire people to think about the origin and nature of lies. Who is the actual puppeteer?
NordArt Public Choice Awards 2022
• DEJO Denzer (Germany)
The artist is fascinated by perceptual phenomena both in the visual as well as the figurative social-political-religious sense. He creates characters out of shoes that are as versatile as the people who have worn them.
• Michał Jackowski (Poland)
The sculptor combines classical elements with the modern mythology of consumerism. The classical aesthetics and elements of antiquity intentionally clash with references to pop culture to encourage the viewers to analyze themselves and their connection with the past and the present.
• WU Guoyong (China)
His photographs record more than 50 scandalous bicycle graveyards in China. The idea of bicycle sharing as a green transport scheme rolled like a wave over Chinese cities, with 27 million bikes soon blocking the streets. In 2017, the government realised the seriousness of the issue and limited the number of service providers, turning the millions of discarded bikes into urban garbage heaps.
